AWS Sr. Architect, Insurance & Financial Services P.5
Responsible for Enterprise-level technical solutions within specific Insurance markets such as P&C, Life, Annuities, Group & Retirement. Leads the design of effective, efficient, scalable, and secure applications in a cloud environment. Collaborates with Enterprise Architects, Solution Architects, and business owners to create and maintain strategic roadmaps, principles, standards, and reference architectures - specifically insurance-related architectures and ensure alignment with the organization's overall strategies. Supports application development teams in design, development, deployment and management NRECA's benefits and financial services application portfolio. Provides leadership and collaborates with business and technical leaders to align products and projects with IT and business strategy. Leads, and directs insurance product API's design and development and provides governance and improvements to NRECA's overall API maturity within the organization.
Purpose and Mission
Engages with business stakeholders to discover, define, and document business strategy and ensure future state technical and functional alignment.
Responsible for evaluating and recommending best-of-breed Cloud architectures for the enterprise, to include providing expertise architecting, engineering, operating and governing the migration of legacy infrastructure and applications to the Cloud utilizing industry best practice Agile methodologies or strategies (DevSecOps).
Leads business and technical teams in the development of IT strategies (ex. Cloud, MDM, DevSecOps, BI/Data, API Management, IT Operations Management)
Ensures the consistency and maintainability of new and existing cloud infrastructure by maintaining and enforcing standards that the organization establishes for optimal performance of NRECA's systems.
Provides leadership to Solution Architects and technical leads to develop requirements; and ensure alignment with business architecture, enterprise, and functional area strategic roadmaps
Identifies opportunities and promote cross-business sharing and re-use of application components, rationalize application portfolios and integrated architectures.
Leads and collaborates with EA, technical leads, IT management, business units, and stakeholders to ensure our API strategy aligns with business strategy
Ensures services, applications and APIs comply with established enterprise integration and data quality governance rules, maturity, and monitoring capabilities.
Leads application teams in the development and maintenance of efficient enterprise integration standards that enhance and support business capabilities and data quality
Provides leadership and support managing API specifications using OAS 3.0 and Swagger specifications
Conducts interviews with technical and non-technical stakeholders to capture data in support of business and technical alignment.
Leads and facilitates the integration of business strategies into technology planning, including input into IT investment strategies
Leverages existing appropriate technical and support infrastructure to reduce the total cost of ownership (costs and manageability)
Documents effectively, using non-technical business terms and vocabulary that are understood clearly by all users and co-workers.
Coordinates, facilitates, and presents work clearly and effectively.
Requirements and Qualifications
Formal Education Required:
Bachelor's in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Information Security or related field. Master's (preferred)
AWS Certified Solution Architect
Azure Certified Solution Architect
CISSP Information Systems Security Architecture Professional (CISSIP-ISSAP)
Dell EMC Proven Professional Cloud architect training and certification
Professional Cloud Solutions Architect Certification
The Open Group TOGAF 9 Certification
The Open Group Certified Architect (Open CA)
Experience and Credentials Required:
10+ years of application development or solutions architecture experience with at least 5+ years focused on Insurance and Financial Services.
5+ years of experience migrating, developing and operating cloud-based solutions in AWS and/or Azure environments.
Experience developing Restful services utilizing a lightweight data-interchange format such as JSON including specification management using OAS 3.0 and Swagger API documents
Experience in design, implementation and deployment of large-scale Insurance and Financial Services solutions in the areas of Claims Processing, 401k Administration, Defined Benefit Plan Administration, ACH Processing and Reconciliation.
Experience leading teams achieving milestones and completing project and program objectives.
Experience or understanding of API management portals (ex. Layer 7, MuleSoft, Boomi)
Experience with Agile frameworks preferred.
Excellent communication and organizational skills along with the ability to deliver along strict guidelines.
Experience developing and securing applications to one or more industry standards and regulations such as HIPAA, PII, SOX.
Recognized experience and leadership in the development of insurance and financial services solutions.
Experience moving an organizations API maturity from a tactical level to an innovative level where external customers are engaged and actively utilizing API capabilities.
Experience anticipating internal and or external business challenges and/or regulatory issues and recommending process, product or technology solutions to meet those challenges.
Experience solving unique and complex problems that have a broad impact on the business
Experience with Cloud technologies (AWS and/or Azure).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Knowledge of the technology and business capabilities necessary to support an Insurance and Financial Services organization. Specifically experience with I&FS Financial Solutions, Defined Benefit (Pension) Solutions, and Health and Welfare.
Knowledge with Enterprise Architecture practices, frameworks and processes such as TOGAF and Zachman, Application development and System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies and Information Technology governance frameworks such as ITIL.
Knowledge of Industry best practices for Application Development in the areas of .NET, Angular.js, Microservices, and API design using Object oriented design and development methodologies
Ability to actively listen, dig into details in order to understand systems deeply, and articulate technical details and risks to business leaders.
Ability to lead, develop and retain staff and high performance teams.
Ability to communicate complex technical subject matter to Senior Management in a way that facilitates understanding and results in effective strategic decision making.
Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical staff and project teams.
Ability to develop strong relationships with external business partners and vendor executives that enable productive results.
Ability to apply innovative solutions to technically complex problems.
Ability to translate business strategies, goals and objectives into actionable technology requirements.

The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading.
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
