Job Description Summary: Performs specialized cleaning duties or assignments that require a high degree of skill, responsibility or uncommon physical effort. Included among these duties are carpet shampoo cleaning, window washing, floor polishing, furniture moving, operating garbage compacting units and restocking linen on floor stations. REPORTS TO: Executive Housekeeper/Assistant Executive Housekeeper/Supervisor. WORK ENVIRONMENT: All public hotel space including front entrance, lobby areas, restaurants, public restrooms, elevators, pool areas and service areas including employee locker rooms, offices and Housekeeping department. Job involves working: under variable temperature conditions (or extreme heat or cold). under variable noise levels. outdoors/indoors. around fumes and/or odor hazards. around dust and/or mite hazards. around chemicals. around bio-hazards. KEY RELATIONSHIPS: Internal: Executive Housekeeper, Assistant Manager, Floor Supervisors, Room Attendants, Linen/Laundry Employees and Property Operations. External: Hotel guests/visitors. QUALIFICATIONS Essential: Fluency in English both verbal and written. Ability to: perform job functions with attention to detail, speed and accuracy. prioritize and organize. be a clear thinker, remaining calm and resolving problems using good judgement. follow directions thoroughly. understand guest's service needs. work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team. work with minimal supervision. maintain confidentiality of guest information and pertinent hotel data. Desirable: Previous experience in cleaning public buildings. Knowledge of proper chemical handling. Fluency in a foreign language, preferably Japanese High school graduate or equivalent vocational training. Experience in hospitality industry in similar position. Previous guest relations training. PHYSICAL ABILITIES Essential: Exert physical effort in transporting (pushing and lifting) 75 pounds or more. Endure various physical movements throughout the work areas. Reach 12-36 inches. Remain in stationary position for 7-8 hours throughout work shift. Satisfactorily communicate with guests, management and co-workers to their understanding. Desirable: ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS + Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures/standards. + Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment. + Use equipment only as intended. + Anticipate guests' needs, respond promptly and acknowledge all guests, however busy and whatever time of day. + Maintain positive guest relations at all times. + Be familiar with all hotel services/features and local attractions/activities to respond to guest inquiries accurately. + Resolve guest complaints, ensuring guest satisfaction. + Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of assigned work areas. + Ensure security of any assigned keys and beeper. + Clean all restaurant furniture. + Clean Hana Hana Cafe and locker room facilities. + Maintain cleanliness of lobby, restrooms and lobby furniture. + Dust lobby counters, ceilings and light fixtures. + Vacuum hallways and office carpets. + Polish meal fixtures in assigned areas. + Maintain cleanliness of elevators. + Empty trash receptacles. + Wash room glasses and mugs. + Strip rooms, clean restrooms. + Transport bulk items in bins. + Able to do errands and deliveries. + Strip and wax floors as needed. + Review assigned area and complete general removal of any trash or debris. + Clean designated areas with proper chemicals, tools and equipment. + Ensure that nothing is stored in stairwells. + Transport any food and beverage trays/items in public areas to service areas. + Inspect condition of all furniture for tears, rips and stains and report damages to Supervisor. + Remove all dust, debris and foreign particles from upholstered furniture, including crevices and under cushions. + Remove dust, spots and smears from windows, frames and ledges; wash windows as assigned. + Remove dust, grease and smears from house/public phones and reposition properly. + Replace soiled/damaged phone books. + Remove dust, dirt, marks and fingerprints from doors and door frames. + Remove stains, scuff marks, and dust from baseboards, ledges and corners. + Report any damages or maintenance problems to the Supervisor. Turn over any lost and found items to the Supervisor. + Ensure security of hotel property. + Perform other Housekeeping related functions as required. + Serve our guests + Serve the other Benchmark team members who serve our guests. + Perform any and all functions as directed - you are a member of the entire Benchmark team, not just a member of your department. + Take personal responsibility to ensure the success of the team - the team succeeds because of your actions. + Always put the team objectives ahead of your personal agenda. + Perform the security and safety function of all Benchmark employees to ensure the security and safety of all guests and of all fellow employees - be vigilant for all safety/security issues, correct and/or report all issues immediately. + Perform the housekeeping function of all Benchmark employees - keep your work area clean and neat, and correct and/or report any housekeeping issues outside of your work area in the public and heart-of-the-house areas as you encounter. + Perform your sales function - all Benchmark employees are sales people for the company and for the property - be knowledgeable of Benchmark and of all aspects of your property, and always present both in the best light to guests and to the community at large. + Perform your community ambassador function - get involved in your community and represent Benchmark and your property well. + Always speak first and speak last to guests in a friendly, courteous manner - every guest encounter should include this. + Always greet co-workers in the same friendly, courteous manner - never pass a fellow employee without acknowledgement. + Deal with all guests and fellow Benchmark team members with respect and honesty. + Present yourself properly in the work place at all times - full uniform including name badge, dress/uniforms always clean and pressed, personal grooming always up to standard. SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS Assist Room Attendant as assigned. Stock Housekeeping department supplies. Ensure that all floor care equipment undergoes scheduled preventative maintenance.
